Tailored treatment programmes

Every step of the way

Don’t let a condition or injury affect your life and wellbeing. We offer a full range of treatments which we use to bring our patients back to full function and performance. Our specialist therapists will be able to find the best approach to restoring and maintaining your health. Our clinics have an array of facilities and equipment at our disposal ready to treat you. Every patient programme is devised around their needs and each session is arranged as they require them.

I had an impingement in my shoulder and a reconstructed ACL. The treatment I received was first class. Always professional, they kept me positive in the early stages and have helped me achieve 100% recovery.

Physiotherapy is the treatment of physical conditions, injury, or deformity by physical methods such as massage and exercise rather than by drugs or surgery. Our philosophy is good communication and specialist examination enabling us to provide an accurate diagnosis. With this, we can create an effective treatment plan encompassing a variety of treatments. Each Patient Plan will be based on current research and the extensive clinical experience of our Physiotherapists.

We believe in using manual therapy such as mobilisation, manipulation, massage, soft tissue techniques, stretches and strengthening exercises to treat our patients. This may be accompanied by the use of acupuncture, electrotherapy such as interferential, TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation), ultrasound, laser and pulsed electromagnetic energy when appropriate.

Postoperative Rehabilitation is the process of re-establishing strength and function following surgery. This can be a lengthy process and may take many months, and in some cases up to a year.

All our therapists have extensive knowledge of Orthopaedic surgical procedures and postoperative rehabilitation protocols, for the upper limb (shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand), lower limb (hip, knee, foot and ankle) and the spine (neck and lower back). Our therapists work closely with consultant Surgeons in order to provide appropriate and progressive treatment.

Our programmes of rehabilitation include a home exercise programme and often extended rehabilitation treatment sessions. These are 45 minutes in duration. For patients returning to sport or physically high demanding jobs, regular gym workouts may be required or advanced training regimes may be set by Nathan Kelly our strength and conditioning expert.

Sports injuries are any trauma that occurs during sports or exercise. It’s possible to hurt any part of the body during physical activity, but we commonly treat patients who have suffered ankle sprains, groin, adductor and hamstring strains, shin splints, ACL and other knee ligament sprains, patellofemoral syndrome, tennis elbow, shoulder dislocations and rotator cuff tears to name a few.

We believe in accurate assessment, specific treatment and thorough rehabilitation to get our patients back to work, training and playing the sport they love. We use the extensive facilities of the Foundation Fitness Gym in Sandhurst to rehabilitate our patients. We also use local facilities to perform on-pitch final stage rehabilitation and fitness testing to ensure no stone is left unturned in getting our patients back to peak athletic performance.

All our therapists are experienced in treating sporting injuries in patients of all ages and abilities, including elite and professional sports people across a wide range of sports. Practice founder Neil Minter attended the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games as Physiotherapist to the British and English Hockey teams, so has worked with athletes at the very top.

Sports Massage is a form of treatment involving manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body to benefit a person who engages in regular physical activity. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.

The style is similar to Swedish massage, which uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fibre) and vibration/shaking. This is shown to reduce pain, joint stiffness, poor circulation and even improve function in patients with osteoarthritis.

Soft tissue massage techniques are suitable for people from all walks of life regardless of whether they are an elite athlete, a weekend warrior, or simply suffering from the aches and pains caused by a stressful lifestyle.

We offer domiciliary care visits where our Physiotherapists treat patients in the comfort of their own homes. We provide this service for patients who are unable to attend our practice due to immobility, frailty, high levels of pain or for elderly patients requiring a mobility assessment within their own home.

We allow up to 60 minutes for an initial detailed assessment, which involves diagnosis, explanation and commencement of treatment.

All follow up appointments are 30 to 40 minutes long. We review our patients’ progress and response to treatment and continue with a programme tailored to their specific needs. If a patient requires manual therapy such as manipulation, mobilisation, massage, acupuncture, exercise rehabilitation or electrotherapy, we can support this using our portable equipment.

Acupuncture can be used as part of a rehabilitation programme. It is a traditional Chinese treatment which uses fine needles inserted into the skin and tissue to pinpoint and alleviate injury pain. It does this by increasing local circulation and reducing muscle spasm around the needle sites, increasing endorphin and adrenaline release and inhibiting transmitter substance production in the central nervous system. The practice has a very successful record treating injuries and we commonly practice acupuncture as part of our treatment programmes.

All our Physiotherapists have extensive experience in acupuncture and are registered with the local Authorities. If we believe it will support your treatment plan we will recommend acupuncture treatment.

Manipulation is a technique used to treat stiffness, joint pain or the general feeling of ‘tightness’. It is a hands-on a technique where a thrust or repeated pressure is applied onto and around a joint. This firm motion results in a release in tension which can also reduce the pain and stiffness and even improve posture and range of movement.

Our team are trained to use manipulation as part of our patients’ treatment throughout their rehabilitation programme and in conjunction with other treatments.

Myofascial Release is a form of treatment used in the rehabilitation of soft tissue and to reduce fascial pain. The fascia is a membrane surrounding all of our muscles and organs. It provides support to minimise friction during everyday body movement. When the fascial layer becomes tight it causes pain, muscle tension and reduced blood flow. Myofascial release is the technique where we apply pressure to the affected area. This mobilises the membrane by stretching and smoothing it providing significant relief.

We offer Myofascial release as part of our treatment programmes when it is required to rehabilitate a patient fully.

Electrotherapy is used as a treatment for a number of conditions to speed up the tissue repair process or help to provide pain relief. There are a number of techniques including Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Ultrasound and Laser therapy.

A TENS machine is a small, battery-operated machine that uses leads attached to sticky pads called electrodes. Pain relief is achieved when the pads are applied to the skin and a mild current is passed through. This is often used to treat arthritis, back pain, nerve pain and even labour pain.

Ultrasound therapy is a technique used to treat certain soft tissue injuries. A gel is applied to an injured area and high-frequency sound waves are used to stimulate the area. This is thought to reduce healing time in some patients.

Laser therapy uses light shone directly through the skin into the muscle tissue. It can be used to treat a wide range of conditions. It augments the tissue healing by minimising inflammation, increasing blood flow and stimulating tissue regeneration.

I was impressed with how quickly they got to the root of my ankle problem which had been niggling me for months and had started to affect my running. With the correct stretching exercises to do my ankle was soon on the mend. I couldn't recommend the team highly enough.
